Membership explained

RAD membership offers a range of options to suit everyone from Friends of the Academy, who may just wish to support our work, up to the professional membership status of RAD Registered Teachers:

Friend of the Academy – no RAD qualifications required

Benefits include receiving:

- dance gazette: our worldwide publication, first published in 1930, packed with dance related news, interviews and feature articles
- diary: our UK publication to keep you informed of local news, events and announcements
- e-news bulletins: our monthly e-newsletter with news, competitions and promotions
- 10% discount on all RAD Shop purchases, tickets for international events, discounts on selected events and courses and preferential rates when booking studio spaces or meeting rooms
- advanced notice and priority booking for international events
- access to the exclusive Members’ Area of our website, containing Music and Artistic Factsheets, Members’ Briefings and downloadable resources
- free access to the Philip Richardson Library and its extensive collection of dance titles, audiovisual materials, journals and archive resources and 10% discount on library subscription


Affiliate Membership –  a pass at RAD Grade 6 to Advanced Foundation

You will receive all the benefits of Friend of the Academy membership, plus:

- discounted fees on Vocational Graded Examinations from Advanced Foundation upwards
- JobSearch International™: our monthly e-publication advertising dance vacancies and schools for sale across the globe
- Members’ Insurance Scheme: preferential rates on public liability packages, business and personal insurance via Heath Lambert Group (UK and selected countries)


Full Membership – a pass at RAD Advanced 1 upwards

All the benefits of Friend of the Academy and Affiliate membership, plus the eligibility to:

- apply to become Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD) upon successful completion of Advanced 2: you will be able to use the letters ARAD after your name (18 years and over)
- take part in the Annual General Meeting: an opportunity to have your say on Academy issues by voting in person, online or by proxy (18 years and over)
- enter scholarships, awards and competitions; opportunity to work with world-class choreographers and perform on some of the most prestigious stages around the world


RAD Registered Teacher – upon successful completion of an RAD teaching programme

All the benefits of Friend of the Academy, Affiliate and Full membership, plus:

- eligibility to register yourself as an RAD centre for RAD examinations and have your students’ results credited against your name
- eligibility to use the initials Registered Teacher Status (RTS) after your name in recognition of your professional status
- eligibility to use the RAD Registered Teacher logo, our collective mark to advertise yourself
- receive 30% discount off the recommended retail price on any FREED uniform wear
- opportunity to be included in the RAD teachers’ listings of local teachers available to the public; your authorisation will be required if you wish to use this service
- receive promotional materials, advice and guidance managing your own business
- take part in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme – learn new skills, refresh your knowledge or re-focus your career with our CPD opportunities

 

 

MEMBERSHIP 2011 / 2012

RAD membership fell due for renewal on 1st September. The 2011/2012 rates for members resident in South Africa; Botswana; Kenya; Mauritius; Mozambique; Swaziland and Zimbabwe are as follows:

Registered Teacher R1,200
Full Member R735 (also refer to reduced rate below)
Affiliate Member R498
Friend R478

Full Member – Reduced Rate: R498 for persons under the age of 18 as well as those who are in full-time education.

Life Membership: Members wishing to apply for Life Membership must have 40 consecutive years membership and must be current Full or Teaching Members. Those awarded Life Membership from 2010 onwards may choose to pay an annual subscription fee of R165 to continue receiving printed copies of RAD publications.
